Privacy Policy
What information Quill collects
None. Quill does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on any server. The app does not include analytics, advertising SDKs, crash reporting services that transmit data, or any third-party trackers.
All information you enter into Quill — your baby's profile, sleep logs, feeding records, photos, notes, growth measurements, milestones, and any other content — is stored exclusively on your device using your operating system's secure local storage.
What information Quill does NOT collect
- Your name, email address, or any contact information
- Your location
- Your device's advertising identifier
- Crash reports or usage analytics
- Any data about how you use the app
- Your baby's information
- Photos you add to milestones
How we use information
We don't, because we don't have any. The data you enter is used only by the app on your device, to provide tracking and journaling features.
Third-party services
Quill does not use any third-party analytics, advertising networks, or data brokers. The app does communicate with Apple's notification servers solely to deliver local notifications you have configured (such as wake-window alerts), but no personal data is included in these notifications beyond what you choose.
Quill also uses Apple's in-app purchase system to offer a one-time unlock after a free trial. This transaction is handled entirely by Apple — Quill never sees or stores your payment details, and the purchase carries no information about your baby or your logs. Apple's handling of payment data is governed by Apple's own privacy policy.
Backups
Quill includes an optional backup feature. When you create a backup:
- The backup file is generated on your device and encrypted with a password you choose.
- The encryption uses a derived key (100,000 iterations of SHA-256) to protect against brute-force attacks.
- You — and only you — decide where the backup file goes (iCloud Drive, Google Drive, email, AirDrop, etc.).
- Quill never sees the backup. We have no copy, no record that you made one, and no way to recover it if you lose the password.
Important: If you forget your backup password, the backup cannot be recovered. We cannot help — because we have no access to your data.
Sharing data
Because we have no data, we share nothing. Period.
You can choose to share your own data (for example, by sending a backup file to your partner, or exporting a PDF report for your pediatrician). These actions are initiated by you, happen on your device, and use systems you control (your email, your messages, your file system).
Children's privacy
Quill is designed for use by adult parents and caregivers to track information about their children. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children, because it does not collect personal information at all.
Your rights
Because all data stays on your device, you have complete control:
- Access: Open the app to see everything stored.
- Export: Generate a backup file or PDF report at any time.
- Delete: Clear all logs from Settings, delete individual entries, or simply uninstall the app to remove everything.
Changes to this policy
If Quill's data practices ever change, this policy will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will reflect the change. Because Quill currently collects no data, any change toward collecting data would be a significant departure and would be clearly disclosed in the app before taking effect.
